I am not a sports fanatic but I have played football ( soccer, to you Americans!) and, at school, rugby, at which, being skinny then, I did not excel. All good fun! Injuries were rare. We knew it was unacceptable to bite, gouge... . . ...kick ankles or elbow ribs. Had such mean misconduct taken place, we'd have expected stern rebuke. But players nowadays? Poor wee flowers! I chanced upon two news items last month, coincidentally (?) on BBC Sports. In one, from NZ, we read that some players were whining about 'cultural insensitivity' and 'body-shaming!' Well, boo-hoo-hoo! In the other, from Queensland, Australia, some pathetics were vexed by a 'homophobic slur' uttered by one player against another. Seriously! Weeds! ......... What hyper-sensitive blossoms these players must be! https://www.bbc.com/sport/rugby-league/61065109 |
