Take the Universities Out, of the, Ivory Towers

The first African American President of one of U.S.'s most prestigious universities, Harvard, and her beliefs about, affirmative action, equal right to all to get a higher education at one of the most prestigious universities in the U.S., off of the Front Page Sections, translated…

In order to get the universities, the colleges to become more assimilated into the local communities they're located in, to offer more services to the communities, and not become an isolated ivory tower, the reforms needed are normally, long-term, and difficult, especially even more so, for the, most prestigious of schools with the famed research departments.  And yet, the famed university, Harvard made a loud statement this year, it'd had its very first, African American president, Claudine Gay, a second woman who's now, leading this, longest standing university in America.

But, the races are still a border in the academia, as the now all conservative Supreme Court is about to hand out the decisions on Harvard affirmative action case, we're all watching, if Gay's taking the position of the President of the university will have any effect on this case.

Gay is a daughter of a Haitian immigrant, the current dean of the school of liberal arts in Harvard, it was Harvard who'd helped her find the home of knowledge, since she'd begun her studies in Harvard, the university had been training, and encouraging her, she'd put all her heart and soul into the school, to date, and hoped, to define Harvard as a leader in the institution of higher education, to affect the world for the future.

The committee that voted her as the president of Harvard described Gay as a natural born cooperative person, outstanding leader, and scholar, someone who's very righteous, she'd set high standards for herself as well as others, and can get people to work together, toward a common, goal.  More importantly, she's an amazing person, charming, passionate, understanding, personable, self-confident, yet quite humble, and everybody loves working with her.

Gay says that her primary job is to connect Harvard with the world even tighter with the scholarship programs, working with the profit and nonprofit organizations, to make higher education accessible to more people.

The universities as ivory towers, that is, a thought of the past, not future.  The university does NOT exist outside of the society, it is, a part of it.  The universities has the responsibilities to combine itself with the world, to participate in the world's goings on, and offer their services to the world.  The employees, the collectibles, the researches, and now to use the universities to become more influential in business, legal, and public policies, all of these, requires the complete openness, and participation of the society around them.

When being asked about how she would act if the U.S. Supreme Court cancels the specific and different requirements of admissions of the university for different races of students, Gaye stated, "We will keep on, fighting to defend the values of having the different students, no matter how the world around us change."

Today, the society, the politics, economics, as well as technology is changing ever the more, quickly, and, we are all, being, tested in the beliefs of how we are to, stay connected, and our basic beliefs about the world that we live in.  So the schools, they must be open to new challenges, to become, the forces to help the society renew its, energies, and to, reshape, the world.

Harvard is an extraordinary institution, with the endless possibilities of the future, but the world now, needs ALL the participation from all these outstanding academia, to work together in more depth.  The universities need to connect with the society, the world, to bring the innovative thoughts, ideas, to help solve the problems we are to face in the future.  This is so for Harvard, for Taiwan's, universities, even more, so.

And so, this, is the new president's beliefs, of making higher education more available to those who seek it out, and, this decision by the Supreme Court will either make the higher education system of the U.S. better, or that it will make it, worse, but, this new president's hard work is, dearly noted, she's changing the world, using her abilities, and, all it takes, is one person, with a different idea than the rest, to set changes into motion, to make this world a better, place.
