At 46%, almost half of beer's retail price are taxes today in Canada, the highest rate in the G7. Japan, with the 2nd highest rate, will reduce their beer taxes in October 2023 and in 2026. The Canadian government is set to raise beer taxes by 6.3% on April 1st.
This is just the tip of the iceberg folks. As the present (and future) governments wrestle with skyrocketing deficits, prepare to see so-called 'sin taxes' increase. We and future generations will be paying for pandemic panic payouts that were thrown at the population like Halloween candy. All that 'free money' doled out by your masters in Ottawa is going to have to find its way back into the treasury somehow. Unlike the gifts we dole out to third world countries, we cannot simply write off the debt. Somebody has to eventually pay it back. Who do you think that 'somebody' is going to be? You can bet it's you!
