Had there not been so much apparent influence peddling such as in The Ukraine, by the current administration, the charges against Trump might be more widely accepted by the general population. The charges would have more weight.
The sustained barrage of charges against Trump creates an appearance of prosecutorial imbalance and persecution, whether he is guilty or not. The bureaucracy appears to be not just tipping those scales, but forcing the balance of those scales in their favor.
The circumstances indicate to the public what the citizen has begun to feel is the default setting in D.C. but were afraid to say it. Government will do anything to to justify its existence.
