Not all heroes wear capes or have known superpowers. Some heroes are ordinary people whose actions have sealed the crack or removed the dentin you. Some heroes have long forgotten their actions but how can you forget when they touched your heart and made you feel loved?
When I was in High School when I was in the Mathematics lesson, I always got the wrong answers. There are some concepts and formulas that I had grasped but most of the concepts were confusing to me. I even asked some of my friends to help me during the study period but it was a struggle. Whenever my class wrote a test I always got a zero and I remember the shame that I carried when I watched my desk mates open their books. I dreaded calling out my mark because the previous time that I had called out my mark the whole class had a good laugh. My teacher skipped my name and the other girl's name and when I went to my teacher's desk he said he was aware that he had skipped my name. Instead of shouting at me for failing the test, he encouraged me to work hard and to ask for help if I needed it. My Mathematics teacher chose not to humiliate me but he intentionally skipped my name in the class register to avoid humiliating me. Now that I am a bit older, I am grateful for what my Mathematics teacher has done for me.

We were only fifteen years old but my two friends hugged me so tight and encouraged me not to give up or beg my mother to let me switch schools. My two friends let me cry and they saw what no one else had seen which was a light at the end of the tunnel. I remember how E and R would check on me during break time and lunchtime. They were there for me when a large part of the school believed that being in 3Yellow meant that one was a failure. It was because of my friends that I slowly learnt to believe in myself and work hard. I also remember how E kept on giving me an extra push when I was in the Advanced Geography class. E would even ask me to summarize what I would have learnt and I ended up enjoying the subject.
My last group of heroes without capes are my teachers who made my classmates and I believe in ourselves. The teachers who choose to treat us the same as the learners from the Science classes. I am grateful for those teachers who gave us an extra push and made the lessons enjoyable.
Who are some of your heroes without capes that you would love to celebrate?
