This is my first attempt at an instant analysis post since my hospitalization. I've nailed the instant as to the analysis you be the judge. Just don't be judgey.
Here we go:
I was wrong about what SCOTUS would do with the Trump absolute immunity case. I thought they'd send it back to Judge Chutkan for trial. Wrong.
Instead, they've taken cert on this meritless and frivolous argument. I still think Team Trump will lose BUT any delay is a win for them. The fact that six of the Justices are GOP appointees is clearly a factor. They have the hammer and are willing to use it.
The Dobbs case is the clearest indication that the right-wing Justices don't care what the public thinks. There's unlikely to be a "switch in time that saved nine" with this court. Sam the Sham Alito & The Federalist Society Pharaohs are made of sterner stuff than the Hughes Court of the 1930's.
A reminder that this is the first major legal win for Team Trump in quite some time. There's a massive civil judgment against the Trump Organization as well as one against the Kaiser of Chaos personally. He's even having to admit that he's not as rich as he's claimed to be in the past. Poor baby.
The criminal trial in Manhattan in the porn star payoff case is scheduled for March 25, but yesterday's action delays the J6 case indefinitely. The hush money case has been minimized by many but it's the origin story of the corruption unleashed by the 2016 election.
The right to a speedy trial adheres to the public, not just the defendant; as the old saying goes, justice delayed is justice denied. SCOTUS is standing in the way of the American people having a verdict before election day as to whether the former president* is an insurrectionist. It doesn't get more corrupt than that.
Speaking of corruption, Clarence Thomas has no plans to recuse himself. The arrogant malakatude, it burns.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: There Is No Deus Ex Machina in the battle against a Fascist takeover of our government. Trumpism must be defeated at the ballot box. Criminal convictions will aid that cause but, in the end, it's up to the people to ensure that Trump's nefarious plans are thwarted in November.
I hope this sickbed post made sense. It's gotta make more sense than the absolute immunity argument, which is absolutely bonkers.
Repeat after me: Innocent people want a speedy trial. Delay is for the guilty.
