I was pondering the concept of, "not playing the game." It means not participating, not voting, not buying what is being sold in many aspects of the culture. Burn your draft card, refuse to play. The 1960's, the far left, used to say that all the time. Along with Tim Leary's, "turn on, tune in, and drop out " it was, "don't play the game."
The game is the establishment, the system, the man.
First let me say that emotionally, philosophically, spiritually, don't play the game. Guard you heart. Get out in nature more. Invest in micro communities. Avoid the man. Resist the dominant paradigm. I am 100% on board with all that. Withdraw your soul and spend a lot of time investing in anything but the game. I really, really dislike the modern left, but I sure do miss a handful of wise old hippies from back in the day.
So why do you refuse to play the game? Because the game is rigged. They cheat. It's a scam. Kind of like in gambling, the house always wins. It's built into the system, it's part of the design. It's a feature not a bug.
Nobody builds a casino because they want to give away a bunch of money and help people become rich. The only money being given away is your own. That might sound like an obvious and simplistic statement to make, but the amount of money people pour into government lotteries because they believe it might make them rich is staggering. (I'm not opposed to gambling, I just like to quip, don't give it to the government. If you're going to gamble, give it to somebody with more integrity like Indians.....or the mob.)
Back to my point. You can't really drop out. You can't really refuse to play. You can't really just not vote and call it good. Many people try that. I myself spend a lot of time disengaged and refusing to participate in multiple things, on account of the fact that the game is rigged. So you "can" refuse to play, I'm just saying, the game will go right on without you. The game plays you. In fact, if you don't actively participate you just become an NPC. Games love a good NPC, they're easily programmable and you never have to think about them again. An NPC is non player character, any character in a game that is not controlled by a player. It just stands there repeating itself.
You'll have to forgive my video game references, it's the simplest analogy I can make. We are the player. Whenever we try to drop out, we just become another NPC. The game goes on without our input. In the real world declaring, "I didn't vote for this," does not prevent you from suffering the consequences of say, a war. To refuse to play by saying things like, "I don't do politics," is kind of like refusing to attempt to steer the car because there are too many pot holes in the road.
Anyway, no shaming intended here! I am a complete drop out myself, as in I often refuse to play the game. This is how I have come to learn that the game plays you. Refusing to participate does not protect you. "If enough of us refuse to play the game, the system will starve from lack of attention," is a complete fallacy. We will simply find ourselves being governed by the remaining 2% who do play the game. And here we are very close to that point today....
I believe everyone should vote, but I'm not here to vote shame any slackers, I'm here to say, you need to actively participate in the game. Resist becoming an NPC by default. You are actually the player with the game controller in your hand. Read, research, respond, react, participate. There is no such thing as a non participation trophy.
I forget who said it but long ago I heard the quote, "in life there are no innocent bystanders." I still like that concept today. There may be a lot of collateral damage in the world but there are no innocent bystanders.
