The Autistic Substance Use Network was founded on one basic principle: That Autistic people should be leading the charge on the production of knowledge and policy that impacts Autistic substance users. As a network, we aim to advance the research and policy design around services and structures that work with Autistic drug and alcohol users and help make the system less hostile to us. Meet The FoundersKatie Munday, MResKatie Munday (they / them) has been substance and abuse free since 2012. They have lost two people to complications with heroine. They want to use their own experience and research to make changes to services for Autistic people and those who support us. They believe in harm-reduction and trauma informed care. Katie is involved in community based research around healthcare accessibility. They are a PhD student exploring the experiences of health and social care for transgender Autistic people. Tanya Adkin, MATanya Adkin is a multiply neurodivergent specialist assistant social work professional who regularly engages with and works on cases related to or involving substance use. Tanya has professional experience of assessing individuals for court as well as direct one-to-one work with people affected by these issues. She has an MA in Critical Autism Studies and more than a decade of professional experience. David Gray-Hammond, BSc (Hons), MCMA, AP APMDavid Gray-Hammond is a multiply neurodivergent Addiction professional who is himself in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, now approaching ten years in recovery. David has direct experience of working one-to-one with Autistic substance users, as well as consultancy experience working with drug related death statistics, drug market profiles, and assessing bids for the implementation of substance use service providers. David brings lived experience and academic knowledge to his work and is committed to making a society where substance use is not a shameful secret.
