There are times when you can feel that you are not in the right place or not sure where you belong. You can also feel out of place or meet certain people you are not comfortable within your life. What can you do in such situations? Maybe you need to see things from a different perspective. People can always assume that they can understand other people better than themselves. Then they start to judge people based on their looks, attitudes, personality, situation, or the way they behave. However, the truth of the matter of fact is that we are far much worse at understanding other people than ourselves. We would form biased opinions about ourselves than others. We do not take the other person's feelings or thoughts into account, what they might be feeling, or the situations or circumstances that they have been through. By seeing things from another perspective, we can pretend to be in someone else's position and then truly know our differences from them. It would also help us understand why someone would act, say, or do things that might appear different. When we try to see things from a different angle, we can understand people more efficiently instead of forming stereotypical judgments.
Understanding people or things around you can be tricky, like putting together a puzzle of missing pieces. You might not do a good job of understanding the person you might want to know about. You can form an opinion based on what you see or hear and then judge the other person. However, if you can positively change your perception, then you might understand a lot about the other person's situation, their experience, their relationship, and the content of their attitudes. It is a human instinct that we try to see everything negatively, even for people or situations. We might not realize that whatever happens or revolve around us happens for a reason. Things might be a little harsh initially, but eventually, they turn out to be just right as rain towards the end.
People always form opinions, judgments, and perceptions based on their evaluations. They think and react about people and things, thinking that they are right about them. They see and respond to things thinking that seeing is believing. However, they need to see the bigger picture or see things from a different angle or perspective. We can just as easily come up with our assumptions and thoughts. For example, see the image below.
Now, some people will assume line A to be smaller in length as compared with line B. Some people will think line B to be bigger than line A. However, both lines are of the same length. It is presented in such a way or illusion to make us form different opinions about it, based on our thinking pattern or how we perceive things, either negative or positive. To put it in the right words, things are often not what they might seem to be, and there is always a different angle, a different perspective; we need to see it through. As Anais Nin says, "We don't see things as they are, we see things as we are"
We observe and think about situations, events, and people that we experience in our lives. We try to understand them based on what other people would say or do about them according to our own experiences, culture, faith, or set of values, which would help us form our own beliefs and perception about others. Nicole Odom Hardnettexplains it so beautifully in her book, Blended to Perfection, that we make sense of the people around us based on how we think or perceive things. She explains that our minds are trying to make sense of the world around us, and then we form judgments and opinions about each and everything. But we need to see things from a different perspective as we look at the world through our distorted glasses. Blended to Perfectionis a must-read book as it teaches us to take everything in a positive light.

Struggling with life's difficulties can be those frightful things, which can keep you away from your life's goals. Regardless of having fame, skills, fortune, or even happiness, your life is full of obstacles. It won't be a lie to say that life is not a bed of roses, but rather a bed of thorns. However, it depends on how you choose to react to the difficulties or obstacles facing you. You can use two approaches. You can either treat them in a healthy and productive style ensuring your personal growth and peace of mind, or be drawn down by them.
There are some effective ways to overcome obstacles in life and find meaning and learning from your experiences.
It is important that you don't overthink. You must take time out for yourself, to clear your mind of negative thoughts, take care of yourself and make sense of your situation. You can learn from your experience by eliminating overthinking. It is only a natural human tendency to think and find solutions to our problem, and relieve yourself from the discomfort. However, if you simply cling to thought and not let go of it, you will soon begin to feel unhappy and stressed out which is more likely to allow your mind from coming closer to the solution.
As a result, overthinking interferes with your ability of problem-solving, saps your motivation, and sustain feelings of sadness and disappointment. There are many ways to stop overthinking about a problem and free yourself. However, giving up overthinking is easier said than done. You can allow yourself distraction from overthinking too much about a problem by doing something fun and safe to divert your attention.
Pulling yourself out on the jogging track, or just a brisk walk on the gravel path, drinking your favorite coffee, watching a movie, or even hanging out with friends may prove to be some good distraction for your mind. You can even switch your thinking towards the positive aspects of finding a solution instead of fearing what will happen if you cannot find any solution. You can also think, say or shout 'STOP' if you find it difficult to detach yourself from overthinking about an issue. Freeing yourself from overthinking may take some time and practice, but you need to be patient with yourself.
Find and Work on Your Strength
With just a little effort, you can easily list your weaknesses and shortcomings. It will help you focus on using your strengths more frequently and help in eliminating your weaknesses. Identifying and knowing your strengths enables you to use them in appropriate situations, and make you feel good about yourself. Acting on your strengths at the right time can increase happiness and eliminate depression.
When you face challenges in life, especially in situations when there are other people involved, then taking care of yourself can be pushed aside in favour of what seems to be more urgent and important than your time, energy, and even yourself at the moment. With close friends and family, when they need help, then you might focus on them more rather than yourself. It may sound selfish to take out time for yourself, but actually, it isn't. You will be able to take care of others better and be able to face those challenges if you make it a priority to take care of yourself and your needs.
Nicole Odom Hardnett explains it very well, in her book, 'Blended to Perfection', on how there are challenging moments in lives and how we perceive and react to them using our experiences. Still, we need to overcome difficulties in life by seeing everything in a positive light and believing in ourselves to achieve greatness.
