There are times when you can feel that you are not in the right place or not sure where you belong. You can also feel out of place or meet certain people you are not comfortable within your life. What can you do in such situations? Maybe you need to see things from a different perspective. People can always assume that they can understand other people better than themselves. Then they start to judge people based on their looks, attitudes, personality, situation, or the way they behave. However, the truth of the matter of fact is that we are far much worse at understanding other people than ourselves. We would form biased opinions about ourselves than others. We do not take the other person's feelings or thoughts into account, what they might be feeling, or the situations or circumstances that they have been through. By seeing things from another perspective, we can pretend to be in someone else's position and then truly know our differences from them. It would also help us understand why someone would act, say, or do things that might appear different. When we try to see things from a different angle, we can understand people more efficiently instead of forming stereotypical judgments.
Understanding people or things around you can be tricky, like putting together a puzzle of missing pieces. You might not do a good job of understanding the person you might want to know about. You can form an opinion based on what you see or hear and then judge the other person. However, if you can positively change your perception, then you might understand a lot about the other person's situation, their experience, their relationship, and the content of their attitudes. It is a human instinct that we try to see everything negatively, even for people or situations. We might not realize that whatever happens or revolve around us happens for a reason. Things might be a little harsh initially, but eventually, they turn out to be just right as rain towards the end.
People always form opinions, judgments, and perceptions based on their evaluations. They think and react about people and things, thinking that they are right about them. They see and respond to things thinking that seeing is believing. However, they need to see the bigger picture or see things from a different angle or perspective. We can just as easily come up with our assumptions and thoughts. For example, see the image below.
Now, some people will assume line A to be smaller in length as compared with line B. Some people will think line B to be bigger than line A. However, both lines are of the same length. It is presented in such a way or illusion to make us form different opinions about it, based on our thinking pattern or how we perceive things, either negative or positive. To put it in the right words, things are often not what they might seem to be, and there is always a different angle, a different perspective; we need to see it through. As Anais Nin says, "We don't see things as they are, we see things as we are"
We observe and think about situations, events, and people that we experience in our lives. We try to understand them based on what other people would say or do about them according to our own experiences, culture, faith, or set of values, which would help us form our own beliefs and perception about others. Nicole Odom Hardnettexplains it so beautifully in her book, Blended to Perfection, that we make sense of the people around us based on how we think or perceive things. She explains that our minds are trying to make sense of the world around us, and then we form judgments and opinions about each and everything. But we need to see things from a different perspective as we look at the world through our distorted glasses. Blended to Perfectionis a must-read book as it teaches us to take everything in a positive light.
