There can be a lot written in a detective story, which can make you feel at the edge of your imagination, wondering what will happen next. You can easily get wrapped up in all sorts of mysterious theories about who is the main villain or the culprit in the storyline. There can be so many characters, which would fit the profile, and who would have hidden agendas or self-based interests that would make them commit the crime in the detective story.
There are always psychological stories, questions, and answers which appeal to the detective story. It also integrates the social aspects of life. Such things through which you can draw inspiration and then compare yourself to their situation, either as the hero or the villain. In the case of a detective story, you would assume yourself to be the detective or the criminal.
The detective and the criminal can be the two sides of a coin. Their characters are immensely described in the story as to what they are like, how they appear, how intelligent they are, and who can win at the end of the story. Both of their stories reflect upon the social scene in their times. Detective stories have always glorified the detective more than the criminal. But some detective stories have adorned the criminal to show him cunning, smart, intelligent, and ruthless.
But in the end, the detective always wins. Many novels were written about the notorious serial killer Jack the Ripper, as he was a criminal who was portrayed as incredibly smart, cunning, intelligent, insane, and ruthless. He was the kind of criminal who terrorized London in the late 1800s. Much has been written about him and the way he got away with the murders.
The Criminal or the Murderer in Detective Stories
Very few novels have admired or glorified the criminal or admired their expertise and skill, the way they commit crimes, and how they get away with it. However, a great majority of detective stories show the criminal to be very antisocial, as if he has been contaminated by their past or have had rough childhood to force them to stir violence and hatred in their minds from a young age. Some detective stories go far as to label them innocent and say that it was because of their past that made them do so.
Many detective stories show criminals to upset the order of things to cause chaos. They are always shown to have no regard for society and always devalue their standards. In the end, detective stories show the end of the justice being served, how the criminal meets their end; a satisfying end to make the readers happy that the criminal finally got what they deserved, either being killed or apprehended for the crimes that they have committed.
The Detective
You will find the detective being too clever, smart, and an absolute genius in any detective story. In the detective story, all the investigations, thoughts, conclusions, and truth are revealed by the detective to the criminal's mystery. The detective does all the work or is helped by their assistants. Only he has the power to catch the criminal and solve the case and the mysteries behind it. If he is not shown as the chosen one to solve the case and the mysteries surrounding the criminal, then it won't be called a detective story, would it?
One of the great detective story that I have recently read is 'Lightning Strikes Twice' from the Urbanax Files' written by an inspirational author Ric Frances. This story shows the proper comparison of the criminal and the detective, and the way he solves the crime is quite inspiring and unique.
