[Barangay Rancho Kalimbahin] Project: Suporta para kay bantay

Background & Overview

Rancho Kalimbahin's advocacy revolves around the propagation of education and the protection of the environment. We believe that these concepts go hand in hand in creating a better community as we are primarily influenced by our environment and depend on it.

With our advocacy and goals in mind, we chose to partner with Strays Worth Saving (SWS), a non-profit organization that helps and rescues stray animals on the streets which are neglected and/or abused. They are dedicated to rescuing stray animals by helping them recover from injuries and finding them forever homes where they will be treated well.

We chose this organization because of our collective goal to educate individuals on appreciating and treating animals with care, especially those we consider pets. Cats and dogs are the two most common stray animals. People get them as infants and are then burdened by veterinary and grocery expenditures. The grown-up version is frequently put out in favor of another cute and cuddly young one at this point. The animals are unable to survive outside because they were fed and kept warm and cozy during their infancy. They can't hunt and have no idea how to battle for survival. They are essentially abandoned. For any species, that is a dreadful death.

Here were the objectives of the group

  1. Raise awareness through Social Media. We will create social media content to promote Strays Worth Saving and to educate people about the importance of thoughtfulness, compassion, and responsible pet ownership.
  1. Raise a minimum of PHP 3,000 worth of raffle ticket funds for Strays Worth Saving by conducting a pay-to-enter online raffle promo, most of the proceeds that will be collected from the event will be donated to SWS while a promised raffle prize will be distributed amongst the winners.
  1. Conduct an online live stream event where raffle winners will be picked. Participants can win up to 500 pesos. Winners will be randomly selected through online roulette.
  1. Commissions for a cause. People who want artwork made of their pet can commission our group to create art for them in the style(based on what our group can offer) that they want. 90% of the proceeds from this fundraiser will be donated to SWS. The remaining 10% will be used for Rancho Kalimbahin's FB page's upkeep.

Milestones

This stage includes the progress made by our group to accomplish our groups goals. In milestone 1, the group promoted our art commissions thru our facebook page with 2196 reactions and 175 engagements. In milestone 2, we part with our final requirements for the last days of our CWTS 2 class, including lessons learned, raffle, art commissions, and messages for the other barangays.

For more information on our milestones check these links:

Milestone 2:

Main Activity

The group focused mainly on our main initiatives which were social media engagements by giving advice on animal care, and raising funds for SWS including a raffle and thru art commissions. We had to cancel our raffle because we lacked participants, so we were relying mostly on our art commissions.

The fund-raiser ended last April 30, and the final amount we were able to come up with was almost about two thousand pesos.

Overall Impact on the Community

While we cannot change everyone's perception about animal welfare. Our group aims to continue what we have worked hard for which is animal care. We are very much thankful for our communities participation in shedding light to this project. We are also thankful for the people behind this project because they kept up with the project goals. And we hope for animals to have a home where they have no homes to look for.

Project Evaluation

We think this project earned a successful run. The group did not give up submitting requirements despite the deadline, the struggle to be complacent and the lack of spirit. We are thankful for each and every one's effort that each one of us has contributed to the project, and say 'we tried our best' or 'we tried to get each one of us on-board the project'. We hope we were able to bring people to better understanding thru this.

Tips and recommendations for fellow citizens interested in doing the same for their communities

There is something about community spirit that brings people together. This project is for animals and people alike who find peace, comfort and love by giving help to animals. We hope to end our term with the same spirit we had for our project. Anyone can contribute by sharing how they feel about their animals and hopefully have a positive change.
