I've little interest in the Depp/Heard case, not sure it tells us much about the world or society or anything much more than the fact of colossal self indulgence and expectation and entitlement - and the gender aspects of the case, linked into entitlement and expectation are grim. Though perhaps all that does tell us something about the world and society...
But spare a thought for others who were impacted by Depps behaviours.
Depp's lawyers allege that the domestic abuse accusations damaged his reputation but his former agent said his star had already begun to wane before then.
She claimed Depp's "unprofessional behaviour" included drug and alcohol use and "showing up late to set consistently on virtually every movie".
"Crews don't love sitting around for hours and hours and hours waiting for the star of the movie to show up," she said. "It's a small community and it made people reluctant to use him toward the end."
Those are workers forced by the whim of one individual to see their lives upended. It's unedifying and exploitative and the fact their rights wouldn't appear to trouble the 'star' is illuminating.
