Science should not conclude that what we do not know, does not exist',
Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev
says Sadhguru in his interview with Steven Pinker, experimental psychologist and author.
I would modify it slightly to say that what we do not accept, does not exist. It happens every time we decry a story being peddled by an opponent or malign someone for non-compliance with a given code of conduct.
We assume authority to certify a person as insane, when s/he becomes a problem for so-called civilized society. The person lives on another dimension – which could be hypersensitivity, hyper-imagination, a reactionary approach to suffering or anything that makes life difficult for others. Some of them are criminals and need to be locked up in prison for the harm they inflict on others.
Mass genocide in the form of war is condoned, because someone calls it an attempt to restore peace and normalcy or justifies it with some other ideology. The person who dares to question this power is labelled insane. Sanity is more about going with the majority and facilitating status quo. Iconoclasts are insane.
We can benefit from the wisdom of insanity only when the person returns to a normal state and shares experience. It's like a return from another planet or world. But most of these stories remain undocumented in absence of supporting evidence.
Science should not reject whatever has no tangible evidence. It should only remain as a hypothesis to be worked upon.
