"CDC now advises people to treat COVID the same as for flu and other respiratory illnesses and drops the 5-day isolation time."
And just like that, COVID-19 is apparently no longer the massive public health menace it once was.
What a bunch of poppycock. I thought we were stacking bodies in refridgerator trucks and the situation was so dire we had to revoke people's civil rights?!
I am also rather annoyed by the CDC's recent changes, in part because they are suggesting people can just go about their business if they haven't had a fever for 24 hours. There is such a thing as "good self care," as health and wellness! It is utter rubbish to tell people they can just pop right up and get back to work. You don't have significant fever, just suck it up buttercup, and get to work! Not only do you need time to re-cooperate and heal, but nobody needs all your germs. Even if all you have is an annoying head cold, there's no reason to go out and share it with everyone.
I do everything I can to keep my immune system strong and healthy, so I'm not concerned about "catching" anything, but I don't particularly enjoy seeing miserable people hacking all over the produce section in the grocery store simply because the CDC told them they had to.
Something that used to annoy the heck out of me as a mom were these awards for "perfect attendance" in school. That child and their parents were not Extra Special Responsible, they were going to school while sick and passing around the latest crud. Also, we were teaching kids something awful, how not to take care yourself, how to put everything before your own health and well being, how to suck it up like a good little automatron.
Illness can be incredibly annoying and very inconvenient, especially if you have work responsibilities, but for goodness sake people, ignore the CDC, use common sense instead, and prioritize your health over your job. Sit in the sunshine, eat some chicken soup, read a good book, give yourself time to heal.
