Wow, this has been a hell of week. Last week was lovely, kids off school and chilled out, himself had a couple of days off work and then a few days at my mum's.
This week has been the opposite. Back to school, horrid weather, extra things going on: first committee meeting for himself as a Scouts trustee, rugby match for school for large boy, report for large boy (he's a genius according to him).
And then...
Large boy got off the pitch after school rugby (having thrashed all 4 other teams in the tournament), and announced to himself that his house key had been taken.
He'd been in PE and come back to encounter a small group of older kids coming out of the changing rooms despite not having PE. He got to his stuff and found his blazer moved, his wallet out and opened, and his house key gone. It wasn't obvious on the floor anywhere and he had to hustle for the bus to the rugby tournament.
So, on Thursday night we found ourselves in the unpleasant situation of knowing our house key was in someone else's hands, who had been through large boy's blazer and wallet, therefore knew his name and could easily figure out which house the key would fit.
Of course, by the time we'd thoroughly checked every pocket and cranny of his blazer and bag, it was far too late to speak to school.
He went into school on Friday and checked all the lost property, rechecked the changing rooms and couldn't find it. I spoke to school and they got the details from large boy. Then, I found a local locksmith who could change the lock. He came out the same day and sorted it all really quickly, also fitting a key safe so that large boy doesn't need to take a key any more.
Because of all that messing about, I missed out on my long run on Friday too. That's not good.
Small boy's night terrors remain on going, randomly waking him up scared.
And all that was going on in an atmosphere of very stressful weeks at work for both me and himself. We've been working long days, dealing with complicated situations, trying to manage other people's mistakes and terrible communication skills and fighting random minor emergencies. We're both tired, frazzled.
But, I squeezed in a nice lunch with my friends, we took the easy takeaway dinner route for tea on Friday, and then snuggled up to watch the Netflix Six Nations series together. I treated myself to a lovely gin and tonic. We'd weathered this storm.
So, thank you and goodnight February. March, can you be a bit gentler please?
How are you, dear reader? Tell me which trials you've faced and tribulations you've overcome?
