Contrary to the common perception of US policy, the US seeks to weaken Israel so as to maintain Israel in a client position as weak and dependent. The US does not want Israel to emerge as a great power in the region and consistently seeks to prevent Israel from emerging victorious in war. This has been US policy since 1973. This is particularly counterproductive to global and regional US interests since it wrongly assumes that it is Israel's state of dependency on the US that keeps Israel loyal to US interests. Rather it is an inherent Israeli interest to maintain US regional and global hegemony. On the contrary, the US is respected in the region and the world when Washington stands by Israel. Standing with Israel strengthens America and when the White House stands with Israel this strengthens any US president domestically. Contrary to what the White House has been led to believe, there are very few US Democrat voters who are sincerely ready to enable the return of President Trump by not voting at all as a form of protest against the situation in Gaza. The Biden administration does not sincerely believe that Israel's plans for the evacuation of Rafah are "unviable", rather this is a mere ploy to keep Israel weak and prevent it from emerging victorious.
