She's Gone

Peter Adrastos Athas

Our tour of Seventies soul continues with an early hit from Eighties superstars Daryl Hall & John Oates.

Hall & Oates wrote She's Gone in 1973 for the Abandoned Laundromat album. It was released twice as a single in 1973 then in 1976 as the boys from Philly began to gain traction on the pop charts.

We begin with Hall & Oates. First the album version, then the single version.

The late Lou Rawls had the deepest voice on the planet. I dig his take on Daryl and John's tune.

Last week we had a gender swap by Etta James with Mr. Pitiful. This week, it's Dee Dee Bridgewater with He's Gone:

What would the Friday Cocktail Hour be without an instrumental version of the week's tune? This time, it's Soul Collective with Bradley Leighton, Mic Gillette, and Tom Scott.

That's it for this week. I propose a toast to Hall and Oates. I hope y'all kiss and make up soon, but I'm not holding my breath. It's what Bogie, Betty, and Frank would want. Never argue with them.
