That title is my feeble attempt at click bait. Never, ever listen to men..... who think they are women and therefore now qualified to define the nature and essence of womanhood for everyone else.
What in the world am I going on about? Jools Lebron, the recent viral tik tok social media influencer, Jimmy Kimmel Live star, who has instructed women on how to be demure. This thing has taken in millions, billions of hits, endorsements by movie stars, memes galore, until even those of us out in the boonies are now salivating over the word "demure" as if it has just been invented.
I love Titus 2:4-8 in the Bible, specifically how it tells the older woman to teach. Something I absolutely assure you will NOT ever happen, is allowing the older women to actually teach anything at all, ever. This is not only true in secular society, but within the church, too. We are very dangerous creatures indeed, karens, cat ladies, boomers, feminists, heretics of all sorts, and assorted other caricatures designating us to be the greatest threat to civilization ever.
It's actually kind of a shock to the system to become a grandma and have society or the culture suddenly determine you are now just a doddering old fool, easily deceived and potentially dangerous, to be tossed out and thrown upon the rubbish heap. I kid you not, it literally happens overnight. You may have 40 years of wisdom and hands on experience in some area, but you know what, we've decided to just hire this 25 yr old guy who feels really passionate about the job.....to be your boss.
I should mention that the Woman of the Year is actually a man. Don't even get me started about women's sports! And of course a bazillion people will be quick to remind me that is very important to submit to this new reality, to hand over my very being, to sacrifice my very essence and graciously allow him to be the Best Female Ever, so nobody's feelings get hurt. My feelings of course are completely irrelevant. You must surrender all, erase yourself, for the greater good.
Irony of all ironies, it has often been true that men all throughout history have insisted that women become quieter, smaller, polite, modest, shy, more invisible, more demure, more passive, and here we are in 2024 with a man doing the very same thing, teaching millions of young girls that it's super cool to be coy, covetous, and demure....while he himself profits tremendously off of having done the precise opposite, of having commodified womanhood into a nothing more than a brand, a sexual fetish, or a fashion statement.
Not that anybody really cares about words anymore, but I should mention that "de" means "down and away " and "mure" means "shut up in a closed space, squeezed."
Demure, to be put away and imprisoned.
