It presents the perceived lack of empathy in Autistic people as a difference in fundamental experiences rather than a lack of emotional reciprocity for another's experience. In popular Autistic culture this has been used to describe communication barriers and interpersonal conflict, however I believe The Double Empathy Problem presents a deeper truth than simple communication or empathy.
