Listening to the QAnon Anonymous podcast, which delves into the - ahem - bizarre, for want of a better world, of all things Q-Anon (and bear in mind there are elected officials in the US who subscribe to it) they noted this cry for help during the Titan sub tragedy. From a Titanic reddit more used to normal interactions between enthusiasts a plea for moderation, as in moderators, to come and deal with the pile in from conspiracy theorists of every ilk.
48 hours ago, this subreddit was full of good-quality discussion from Titanic enthusiasts who at least attempted to know the basics, and more importantly, knew the importance of facts, and had respect for both victims of maritime disasters, and the Titanic community.
Now it's full of misinformed/uneducated takes from ignorant brigaders thinking they're all suddenly ship experts, or borderline-AI-generated conspiracy drivel being used to shitpost. In the past 24 hours, there have been twice as many garbage-tier posts as actual, meaningful content.
This subreddit is meant to be an actual place for discussion. If you can't handle mature, nuanced conversations, please go back to r/WorldNews.
Mods, is there any way to curb the rapidly declining quality of posts here? It's really sad to see this sub implode.
That point about the victims of maritime disasters, not least those of the Titanic itself, is well made too. Something that all too often and not just in this context, forgotten
I remember in the 1970s reading an essay by Arthur C. Clarke from the 1950s or 1960s extolling the virtues of the communications satellite and how it would usher in a new era of culture and discourse and dialogue.
If only.
