Jefferson Thompson on Facebook posted this memory post from 2015 this morning.
They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine.
-- Isaiah 29:24 (KJV) --
ESV -- And those who go astray in spirit will come to understanding, and those who murmur will accept instruction.
NEB -- those whose minds are confused will gain understanding, and the obstinate will receive instruction.
I believe the Holy Spirit is impressing me to speak encouragement to those whose children (biological or spiritual) are not where they need to be with the Lord. Also, Pastors (or other ministers) who have been dealing with "murmuring" or obstinate folks connected to their ministries can take comfort from this verse as well. Pray in the Spirit, and speak out the Word of God (including this Scripture) in supplication to God on behalf of these folks. Although we cannot (and should not ever attempt to do so) violate the will of another individual, as God deals with them in definitive ways, MANY of those who have taken wrong paths and made wrong choices will indeed repent and return to again embrace the Lord and His Kingdom Purpose.
The Calvinist will say that the backslider was never "saved" to begin with, and needs to truly repent and come to faith in Christ. The Arminian will say that the backslider has "lost it" and needs to truly repent and come (return) to faith in Christ. Certainly we can discuss this and many other nuances in Theology classes, but notice that regardless of which "side" one may be on, the remedy is the SAME: Repentance leading to faith in Christ (acknowledgement to Dr. Wayne Grudem).
Be Blessed!
