It all started on the ominous day of 19 nov, 2023. As someone who isn't necessarily an avid cricket fan and had exam the next day, I wasn't watching the match. I was instead sneaking in quick peeks into the room in which the match was going on. Now call it my superpower or just sheer luck, every time I entered the room, India would take a wicket. This happened thrice in a row and had my family and friends losing their minds! Friends requested me to drop my books and continue doing 'andar bahar' instead.
But even that couldn't save us from the crushing defeat which had scarred Indians till today, where all those wounds healed under the shimmer of the trophy and the happy tears of all the players.
And guess what, my super power worked in the last Ind vs Aus match (flattened 4 wickets including travis head) AND today in the finals too (4 again this time)! You absolutely cannot fathom my level of satisfaction on today's win, thanks to this lil' coincidence thing of mine.
The sheer camaraderie with which the entire nation was glued to their screens got even novices like me to join in on the cricket fever. The immediate hoots and claps upon winning, cheeks glistening with tears, Indian flags proudly fluttering everywhere, overexcited texts to friends in all capital letters, dancing in the rain and dhol tasha echoing through the night is a sight I wish I could capture in a picture to keep alive forever. We Indians can be so wholesome at times😃
In this roller coaster of a match came an unexpected turn where Klaasen flipped the entire game. Many switched off the match at that point. But our heroes didn't give up and instead gave their absolute best till the very end. A cricket match is the last place I thought I'd be learning such important life lessons from, but here I am, deeply impacted by it.
Truly a night to remember❤️
