My Co-Author writes more than I do. Now, it may be no surprise to those of you who know I'm the poetic type and she's the muscle and determination that I write less than she does, but to those of you who fully see us as Co-Authors instead of Author and Flavor Commentator, I feel it is necessary to state before I get into why I'm doing NaNoWriMo, what it is, and why.
I'm participating in National Novel Writing Month this year because I want to get back into the habit of writing alone. For this purpose, I've taken up the challenge to write 50,000 words as a novel in 1 month with 11 months to edit it before deciding whether to take up the challenge again. This, not surprisingly, is not my first NaNoWriMo. As a member of Young Writers Society, it was one of our biggest annual events and even as a poetry moderator, I still took part.
NaNoWriMo is a website that hosts a challenge and supplies tracking services to hold people accountable to the 1,667 word a day goal that makes 50,000 words in a month manageable. One day at a time. They provide books on writing stories, plot help, memorabilia to commemorate the annual event, and, most importantly, a home to talk to all the others for support, feedback, and motivation.
I chose to take on the challenge this year because I wanted to do better for me. I have no aspiration to be an amazing author or novelist, but I want to be better at being able to complete a story on my own than I am. I also wanted to dedicate more of my time to something I enjoy doing that's free to do, relatively speaking.
For that reason, I've picked a plot from my endless wheelhouse of plots and have begun NaNoWriMo. If you'd like to join me, visit my page, send a request, and I'll buddy you and encourage you to complete NaNoWriMo too.
