How the Russian "special operation" is going:
Hello, I am Oleynik Stepan Andreevich, a native of the town of Vorkuta, I an appealing to the media and to everyone who can help us. The appeal is from all military men, who were recruited as volunteers from the penal colony of high security No 25 in Syktyvkar for a six-month contract with a salary of 215 thousand roubles.
This contract was signed in 1 copy on the plane in Rostov-on-Don. They did not give us any documents we do not even a military ticket.
[left, Vorkuta; right, Rostov-on-Don]
We do not know where our passports are. There is no management. We don't know who to contact. Our group is called 'Storm Z', but nobody knows who leads it. We signed a contract with the Ministry of Defence, but somehow we were transferred to the DPR People's Militia. And now we are in 'Storm Z'.
We are in the village of Vodiane near Avdiivka, the Donetsk People's Republic. We were abandoned without any support from the army. People are being sent to slaughter as cannon fodder.
Every day young guys are being killed. No one takes their bodies. No payments are made. We were left to die. We have been sitting under shelling for a month, no help is coming.
There are very few of us left. Out of a group of 65 people, there are 23 of us left. We are sitting in damp ground. We haven't washed for a month.
We're ragged, dirty. The evacuation of the wounded is done very badly. The imposters are in charge of this chaos. If we refuse to fight to our deaths we are threatened with execution.
Mobilized from other groups run away from here, but we cannot. Our compatriots put machine guns in our backs. The guys from the penal colony of high security No 25 are with me; Makarov Maksim, Nesterov Stepan, Vorontsov Viktor, Smotrin Kirill, Arabyzheiv Svyotoslav.
We are all natives of the Republic of Komi. Everybody who will see our appeal, please send it to all instances and render help, as well as punish all those, who are involved in this outrage.

I appeal to the President, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, do something about this outrage. The artillery is not helping us. We have no equipment for defence and offensive works. There are no supplies.
There are lies, and people are driven to slaughter as expendables. The relatives aren't told about the deaths, the bodies aren't taken away, payments aren't made.
We are waiting, guys. We're waiting for you to help, at least in some way. We won't be here long. We have to do something about it. I appeal to the President, Vladimir Vladimirovich, do something about it.
Republic of Komi--that's the old Viking Permia.
You will find the story in Seven Viking Romances, a rather obscure collection of short stories centering somewhat loosely on the character Arrow-Odd. They sail north around the coast of Finland to Permia, meet some people they are somehow able to communicate and trade with, have a wonderful time with feasting and what-have-you, then sail back.
They don't seem to be very high in the Russian food chain.
Here is the medieval Komi script. Some of the characters do not render on my computer.

The promised contract of 215,000 Russian Ruble = $2,672.45 USD
But they didn't pay it, so it cost them nothing.
If they simply disappear the bodies, they can keep the passports.
So that's 32 passports (so far) that can be zombified and reissued. Who wants a passport that says they came from a penal colony? Maybe any Russian combatant who has any concerns about having participated in war crimes.
