Summary: Key Points of the Article
Allyson Felix is a successful entrepreneur and the winningest U.S. athlete in the history of track and field. She retired in 2022 and now focuses her attention on a shoe company she started with her brother Wes. Felix started the shoe company after ending her contract with Nike when the firm wanted to reduce her compensation due to her pregnancy. Simply put, she needed shoes to compete in the Olympics and her relationship with Nike was history.
Allyson Felix was surprised by Nike's move given that she won six Olympic gold medals in four different Olympics. However, after she began researching starting her own shoe company she was even more surprised to learn that most shoes designed for women athletes were patterned after a male foot. Felix's brand, Saysh, changed that and designed the shoes based on a woman's feet.
Felix stated that her position as a professional athlete gives her a unique platform where she can speak her mind. She uses her personal experiences to speak out for maternal care for Black women after having a difficult child birth. She also backs up her position with physical actions and Saysh will provide a free pair of shoes to any customer that has a change in shoe size due to pregnancy.
