Galloway wins by a landslide. He finished 10,000 votes ahead of Labour's right-wing racist.
I know Galloway's an egoist, I know he hasn't got his head round the urgency of climate crisis and I know the nascent party he supposedly heads will probably implode because that's what Galloway does -- but our situation is so dire this really is cause for celebration.
The 'you must vote Labour to get the Tories out' argument is dead in the water.
One man, three big reasons to be happy. This is what our abysmal House of Commons has coming:
An unequivocal voice for Palestine.
An unequivocal voice for our NHS.
A man who hasn't forgotten the basic truths about what women are, and why denying sex-based rights is a stupid and dangerous idea.
Be happy.
Every single MP voted in who's not a conventional member of an established political party is a huge gain. It's quite likely every single one of them will have glaring faults but now we know there's a mood out there to seriously trash the corroding mainstream parties, now we know we'll have plenty of independents. Their individual failings will cancel each other out and the establishment's pro-profiteers, pro-Israel, anti-NHS, anti-people monopoly of the public conversation will be challenged.
Celebrate!
