GHCL Foundation Trust, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of GHCL Textiles Ltd., has successfully raised the socioeconomic standards around Madurai and Manapparai, Tamil Nadu, through targeted CSR activities that have delivered measurable outcomes.

Computer Literacy Training for Communities

The company has maximised computer literacy among communities surrounding its textile plants including students, villagers, especially adolescent girls. The training covered two month basic instructions on MS office packages implemented in partnership with Formation of Educational Development Centre for Rural Organization and Training (FEDCROT). Its outreach has improved learning for 151 adolescent girls/boys in 3 schools, and enhanced digital literacy among 18 village habitations and 128 adolescent girls in Madurai district and Manapparai town since 2023.

Impact of CSR Programmes

Commenting on the impact of the ongoing CSR programmes, Balakrishnan R, CEO – GHCL Textiles Limited said, "Our CSR initiatives are designed to drive impact through customised interventions based on the community needs. We constantly monitor and evaluate campaigns to measure deliverables ensuring that our efforts are aligned with community goals and requirements. The success of our interventions lie in cultivating local leadership and enabling cooperation. This is why our work spanning health, education and livelihoods among others is a model for sustainable development."

Education Initiatives 2023-24

Under its education initiatives 2023-24, GHCL Foundation directed funds towards computer skill training for students and villagers, reproductive health awareness program in partnership with FPAI (Family planning Association of India) and school infrastructure development. It also organised parent teacher meetings with the aid of school management committees and parent-teacher associations at government-run schools to jointly identify the most pressing needs for school education development, prioritise tasks and execute them. This collaborative model inspired stakeholdership, facilitated cooperation and enabled localised problem-solving giving communities the agency to determine their future roadmap.
