Doris Kearns Goodwin is a presidential historian. Anderson Cooper is smart enough to ask the right questions. She says the debate is about character.
"And you know what's really interesting, in 1892, character was on the ballot when Cleveland ran for office and it was discovered that a child had been...out of wedlock, so it was considered that he was privately corrupt, in that sense, but his opponent James Blaine, had written a letter to someone promising him a business deal, and then said 'burn this letter, burn', and then it was 'James G. Blaine, the continental liar from the state of Maine', The public chose the person who may have been worried about private morality, rather than the public person who was going to be corrupt, and so public character and private character are maybe two different things..."
So does anyone really care if Trump was with a porn star while his wife was having a baby? No, this is not a public matter. It's between him and his wife, just like Monica Lewinsky was between the Clintons. I have to admit it was an interesting sound bite to hear Trump deny it, (reminds me of LBJ's pig-f*****r comment), but I agree that is not what will motivate people to vote.
