Mini Reviews – Dead Silence – The Painter's Daughters – The Great Divide

By starlightreadingtx on June 29, 2024

Hello, friends! I have lot of projects going on this season and haven't been reading as much as usual. But here are some books that I recently finished!

Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes

Rating: 3/5

An entertaning book that gave just the right about of fear factor and gore. My curiousity was piqued the entire time trying to figure out what was causing all the catastrophy. The lead up to the end and final reveal was enjoyable. I listened to this one on audio, which is not a format I usually use. If I could do over, I would read instead. It's hard for me to focus on audiobooks.

The Painter's Daughters by Emily Howes

Rating: 3/5

There was alot of sadness in this book and there is not really a happy ending. The story is told from two different characters, each on their own timeline. I felt bad for the two daughters (Molly and Peggy) and the emotional turmoil that they experienced growing up. Their parents put so much pressure on them to behave and act a certain way. So when Molly's mental state starts changing, Peggy feels like she has to hide Molly's episodes. Howes has a talent for describing settings and includes details that transports you to the scene. Another one of my favorite elements of the book is the dialogue between the characters. The converstations and arguments just drew me in! The history notes at the end of the book were also an interesting factor that added to the overall story.

Thank you to Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

The Great Divide by Cristina Henríquez

Rating: 3/5

I appreciated the historical aspect of this novel because it introduced me to history that I know very little about. However, this book would have been more enjoyable if there had been less character storylines to follow. There were two families that I was really interested in, Ada's family and Omar's family, that would ahve made for an amazing story if it had been fully developed. I loved how their story developed throughout the book.

Thank you to Ecco and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Have you read these books? I'd love to hear what you thought!
