gangs are a direct result
of society's failure
gangs are family
a safe haven
protection
from the things
outside
the things
that are more
threatening
or dangerous
than they are
violence
becomes a way of life
where peace doesn't exist
they live by their own rules
because the rules of their culture
doesn't include them
they are outsiders
fringe dwellers
forced to grow up
in a place
where that's all there is
it's all they know
it's our fault
for allowing poverty
to exist
for not providing
the things people need
to be healthy
safe
well educated
well fed
and given opportunities
that others take for granted
if you don't know
there's another way to live
you live the life you have
good kids
creative kids
lost in a system
that CHOOSES
to make them what they are by
WITHHOLDING
what they need to be
all they can be
and
after making them into gang members
they are labeled
and demeaned
by the very people
who made them
what they have become
