The Ascent Of Paper Currency In Britain, 1690s–1920sResearch Fellow position in Economic History at the University of Birmingham – School of History and Cultures (pre-doc/post-doc)Research Fellow position in Economic History at the University of Birmingham – School of History and Cultures (pre-doc/post-doc)Salary: £37,174 per yearWork on the Leverhulme Trust funded research project "The Ascent Of Paper Currency In Britain, 1690s–1920s" with Hiroki Shin (Birmingham) and Nuno Palma (Manchester). As a project-attached research fellow, you will be responsible for collecting and organising historical data from the Bank of England Archive and other UK archives, contributing to the creation of a large database on historical banknote users, and analysing monetary and financial history in modern Britain.
This position is ideal for candidates with a first degree in economic history, modern history, economics, or economic geography. A PhD is not mandatory - we encourage MA holders (pre-docs) to apply! Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate complex information clearly are essential. This post is for those with the right to work in the UK for the period between October 2025 and September 2027, and based in England, UK, as the salary level does not satisfy work permit requirements.
