But within academia, business schools are their own little world. Advice abounds to always “go high” and then work your way down with each rejection. Ultimately, this is very generic and mechanistic advice that seems to assume that the people who make academic hiring decisions are either not academics themselves and therefore naively reliant on metrics, or share this mindset and will hire on this basis.
