Dear colleagues, It is a great pleasure to announce Volume 2 of our Second City History and Economics Meeting (SCHEMe). This is a workshop on economic history, broadly defined, and will be held on 12-13 June in University House. It promises to be a great event, with scholars based at Birmingham and elsewhere joining us to present their work on a wide range of themes. As you can see from the attached programme, the topics are eclectic and include gender norms, civic capital, the mafia, technology, and much more. A keynote will be given by Bishnupriya Gupta (University of Warwick) on her recent book on the economic history of India. You are cordially invited to attend the workshop (the full thing if you are keen, or individual sessions if there are points of particular interest). Please also feel free to extend this invitation to any PhD students who may be interested. Further details and updates will be circulated in due course. Hoping to see many of you at the workshop!
