Today I read My Lai massacre from the perspective of the US. In history class in Vietnam, we don’t really teach students much details on this type of thing either. After all, it’s peace time, and the country has more focus on healing and economic development than repeating the wounds of war, understandably. If I walk the streets and ask random youngsters on this event, my bet is they have vague understanding on this matter, and perhaps most have very favorable view to nearly worshipping USA. I can be wrong, though. I hope I’m wrong. That’s why when I watch this type of video where a young Vietnamese person is able to articulate well our history and understands the linkage between the struggles of past forefathers of Vietnam vs Palestine right now, my heart warms. Do not forget our history, do not get delusional about the empire and the colonialists. Their empire of crimes never stopped, we just merely escaped.
Now, we should stand in solidarity with the Palestinians. intj wanderer is free today. But if you enjoyed this post, you can tell intj wanderer that their writing is valuable by pledging a future subscription. You won't be charged unless they enable payments. |
